Howdy, art friend ;3
A little survey told me that some of you are struggling with “anime eyes”.
That means I’m gonna make you guys a few rounds of anime eye tutorials to, hopefully, clear that right up.
SO! Here’s part 1, of what will probably be 3-4 parts.
Enjoy 😤
Note: This is just the basic “step by step”. In the upcoming guides I’m gonna show you how to break down and draw ANY anime eye you want. One piece at a time, k?

1. Sketch Your Eye

2. Add Lines

3. Flat Colors
White for the back of the eye. I like to start with a dark version of your main eye color.

4. Add The Bottom Half
Pick a lighter (around a mid-tone) version of your main color and color in the bottom half of the eye - it should be about the middle of the pupil with a downward curve to it.

5. Add A Bright Section
Pick a lick version of your dominant eye color and cut your mid-tone area in half. In general this piece should be just under the pupil.

6. Lower Eye Highlight
I just like to pick a light version of an adjacent color. In this case my eye is blue, so I went with a light greenish color.
If for instance your eye was red, use an orange or yellow toned highlight here.

7. Darken the Top
Using a multiply or soft light layer, do a quick stroke along the top of the eye using black (or very dark version of your dominant color). This creates a shady gradient.

8. Lighten the Bottom
Using a lighten or soft light layer, do a quick stroke along the bottom of the eye using white (or very light version of your dominant color). This creates a nice glow to your eye.

9. Eye Shade
Using a warm desaturated color, add in the shade to the white of your eye.

10. Specular Light!
Add in some big bright whites on top of everything (including your lines) to make your eyes pop.

Ta-da. Now go try it!
I’ll see you soon with a follow up eye guide to teach you how to draw ANY anime and/or manga eye.
Peace and Love,
Brosatsu
