Howdy, Art Friend 😎
One of the biggest struggles for artists online is keeping up with content.
It feels like you have to be constantly creating, constantly posting, constantly staying visible. But not every artist keep up with that.
But what do you do if it takes you time to create? Not every artist is lightning mcqueen.
You need to learn how to make more content without actually making more work (or rushing your process) and potentially burning out.
The trick is milking your work for every drop of sweet, sweet content by stretching, repurposing, and sharing your process.
Strategy 1: Document Everything
If your pieces take time or you create inconsistently, start documenting every part of the process.
Every stage of your work is a piece of content waiting to happen.
Talk about how you conceptualize your art before the pencil ever hits paper.
Post your rough sketches and let people see the raw beginning of your work.
Share your logic and thoughts on the piece.
Share the line art stage before adding color.
Show how things evolve as you work.
Post the final version as the big reveal.
Film each stage and release short clips showing your progress.
If you're smart one single piece of artwork can be multiple pieces of content. All that matters is you share the process in an engaging way.
You can either focus on one piece at a time (sharing the process as you go) OR intermingle pieces of content from different pieces (all in different stages) to mix up your timeline.
You can look at the IG artists asashi draws and parkjinsuky for examples of this. Park is all over the place with posting. Asashi tends to go piece by piece (posting pencils, line, colors, finals).
Step 2: Repurpose and Reuse
Not everything needs to be brand new. If you’re struggling to create enough content, start looking at what you already have.
Combine all the stages of a piece into a carousel post or video.
Bundle different old works together for a themed post.
Plan ahead and make a schedule, then mix up your releases to make it look like you are working on multiple projects at once.
Revisit and comment on past, popular works - talk about what inspired them, how your process has changed, or what you learned.
And don’t be afraid to just turn on the camera and talk while you work. A five-minute video explaining your thought process, or even just a 15 second reel of you working, could be interesting to a fan.
Step 3: Work Smarter, Not Harder
Most artists, even the most successful ones, are not posting new work every single day. The ones who appear consistent are strategic about how they share.
Use scheduling tools to create the illusion of consistency - even if you work slow or in bursts.
Aim to post at least a few times a week so your audience doesn’t forget you.
Spread out content from one project over multiple posts and formats.
It is okay to be inconsistent. The key is the illusion of looking like you are always active, even when you are not.
I'm certainly not. Almost everything I do is scheduled, cuz I'm actually really inconsistent without it 😆 (tell no one)
I did not write this newsletter just before I sent it. I wrote it before this then scheduled it in Beehiiv.
BTW buffer is awesome for socials. (not sponsored by either - wish I was XD)
Make Content Work for How You Work
Instead of feeling like you need to constantly create more, focus on maximizing what you already do.
Every piece of art is a story. Tell it in stages. Revisit it over time. Let people in on the process.
You do not have to produce more. You can just share and document smarter.
Peace and Love,
Brosatsu
