Howdy, Art Friend :)
You ever posted frequently but get absolutely zero likes?
Don’t worry. You’re not the first.
It’s happened to me too.
On my very first art project, I posted for literally a year STRAIGHT and never got anywhere. Straight up, I threw art into an empty void for a year 😭 It was pretty crushing at the time honestly…
Since that first failure of a project, I’ve worked on more projects since (some with many thousands of views, downloads, and followers) - sharing thousands of pieces of content over the years.
Unfortunately, getting more organic followers isn’t JUST about posting and hoping for the best. Every time you put something out there you’re competing with A LOT of other creators for people’s attention. And people only have so much time in their day. Why should they spend it on you instead of someone else?
The answer? You have to be strategic (just a little), and make things that people think are worth their time.
“But satsu”, you say .... “how tf do I do that???”
Well, here's what I've picked up 👍
(btw organic just means you didn't pay for them via ads)
1. Every Piece Of Your Brand Is A Product
Change how you view everything you put out there.
Think of every comment, DM, post, and story as an opportunity to pull someone into your world. Everything you do is a product. Everything you do is a SALE - another way to get a would-be fan to buy your brand with their attention and a follow. Get it?
Here’s an example of how the process works:
You engage with people or put yourself out there (DMs, comments, content, etc). These are like the signs outside your store saying “notice me. come inside.”
They see something you said or made that intrigues them, so they check out your page. They are now "in your store."
They decide whether to follow you based on whether your content immediately grabs them. This is them deciding whether to buy what's in your store or leave.
If your page is stacked with irresistible content, people won’t just follow - they’ll start sharing your stuff for you. That’s how you create organic growth that keeps going without you constantly grinding.
2. Pay Attention To What You Pay Attention To
People follow, engage, and share because of how something makes them feel. You’re no different.
SO start secretly watching your own online decisions. Every time you click on a video, save a post, or share something, ask yourself:
Why?
Why did I share or save that?
What did it make me feel?
How do I give someone else that feeling?
If something worked on you, it’ll work on someone else. You wanna get more attention than other people? Find out what motivates you, then find a way to give someone else that feeling i.e. create the feelings people want to experience better than your competition.
3. Content Types That Work Well
Most “successful” content tends to fall into three categories:
1. Educational Content (Teach something useful)
People love learning - especially when it’s something they already care about. Use your knowledge and unique perspective to make a topic clearer, easier, or more interesting (this is where most of MY focus goes with poses and pieces like this one).
2. Inspirational Content (Shift someone’s perspective)
Life can be very hard. It's easy to get stuck. Sometimes, people just need a new way of looking at things to keep going. Think of the quotes that have stuck with you for years. Why did they stick? What if you could create something like that for someone else? Inspiration isn’t about cheesy platitudes - it’s about giving people the courage to keep going.
3. Entertainment (Create a positive emotion)
Memes, inside jokes, surprising takes - anything that sparks an emotional reaction. If you can make someone smile, laugh, or even tear up, you’ve likely won their attention.
4. Don’t Lose Yourself in the Process
This is all marketing and branding 101 stuff - but there’s another side to it. You’re still an artist. That means you need to balance creating for others and creating for yourself.
An artist who never makes things for others starves financially.
An artist who never makes things for themselves starves spiritually.
Trends are are a great way to get attention, but the long term goal isn’t to chase trends - it’s to find the people who genuinely resonate with what you love making. Your art should improve someone else’s day while still being true to your creative spark.
That’s the sweet spot I want you to obsess over finding.
5. Be Realistic
If every day you keep going, I promise you that you WILL 100% be a successful artist, but you might have to accept you aren’t that person yet.
Take the long view, and understand you’re on a journey that will last the rest of your life. It’s really hard to get really good at art, because art is has an infinite skill ceiling that’s constantly fighting with your ego - no wonder artists have a reputation for being broke and miserable XD
BUT there was a time when your favorite artists were worse than you are now. I can admit there was a time when MY drawings were worse than yours too. And that’s ok!
We’re all at different stages :)
Just relax, be nice to you, and keep going. If you were becoming a doctor you would expect the journey to take 10 or more years. If you wanted to be a championship bodybuilder you would know that it’s gonna take a lot of gym visits to build your muscles up. Art success is no different to either of those.
You are building your art muscles - every day - little by little. Every single pencil stroke is one stroke closer to your goal.
Now - that’s doesn’t mean you have to get zero likes for 10 years. You can absolutely start building your career RIGHT NOW - this just means to keep a realistic mindset about getting to your destination.
If one piece bombs, who cares? You know you need to make a thousand more.
What's It All Mean?
If you want more likes and follows, try to create work that serves people or gives them the feeling they’re looking for - better than someone else does. Do that, and more people will stick around - with you growing in the process.
Peace and Love,
Brosatsu
