Howdy, Art Friend

Dreaming of getting tens of thousands of views every month, but you aren't getting any attention despite posting constantly?

I know. That is NOT fun.

My very first art project back in 2012 I posted almost everyday for a year straight and got absolutely nowhere. I probably never got more than a few hundred views total 😆 But I've done a lot of projects since and learned some things.

Now on this project between my Pinterest and website alone I get literally tens of thousands (sometimes hundreds of thousands) of views every month.

If you want the big views, here’s the 2 things you gotta do:

  1. Leverage someone else’s existing audience

  2. Position your content so that algorithms and search engines show it to users

Both approaches work, but which one is better for you depends on your goals.

Strategy 1: Networking

If you are new to online business, this is the best place to start.

The most user-friendly way to get eyes on your work is to connect with people who already have an audience. And hopefully, over time, you'll form enough of a bond with those people they'll share you with their audiences.

Now this does not mean spamming DMs for self-promotion. That will get you ignored. Heck, I'd ignore you.

Instead, it means:

  • Leaving meaningful comments on posts in your niche

  • Engaging in discussions, not just dropping “nice post” and floating away

  • Sending friendly, thoughtful, helpful DMs to creators you genuinely admire

  • Collaborating with other creators in your niche

  • Participating in online communities, whether that is Discord, Reddit, etc.

Think of it like making friends, and getting involved in a community. After awhile people will start to recognize you.

The more genuine connections you build, the more opportunities will naturally come your way. A simple share or shoutout from the right person can put your work in front of thousands of new eyes.

If you commit to making just a few dozen meaningful interactions per day or week, you will start seeing growth.

Strategy 2: SEO and Algorithms

The second way to reach people is through search engines and platform algorithms.

This is a longer game (cuz you have to learn how these things work), but when done correctly, it can be STUPIDLY effective. You see...

Every day, billions of people go online searching for something. They use keywords like "anime reference poses" or "best sketching brushes for Procreate" or "how to get jacked in 2 weeks".

Platforms like Google, YouTube, and Pinterest exist to serve those searches. Their goal is to keep people on their platform. They do this by giving people who visit their site the most relevant content to fulfill what their visitors want to see.

So all you gotta do is create and position your content in such a way that search engines think it's what their users want to see. If you do this right you will get a steady stream of visitors without having to constantly promote yourself. Google and Youtube will promote you for you.

This is exactly how I got my site to rank #1 on Google. Now, when people search for “anime reference poses”, they find my site first - bringing in thousands of visitors every month to my site. And at the time of me writing this I'm still #1 💪

Now this strategy goes D E E P, so I'm stopping here. This is just to let you know it's a thing if you want to explore this route. This strategy takes effort, but it pays off big once you get it.

If you want something actionable go watch a video or two on basic SEO for your chosen platform.

Bonus: Making Content People Actually Want

Ok ok, I know said "two", but there's a sneaky 3rd element.

You can be a master networker. You can be an SEO genius. But none of that will matter if people do not actually want to engage with what you create. This part is not always fun to hear, but it is the truth.

Not all content is equally engaging. Some things naturally get more shares, comments, and interest than others. But the good news? There is always a way to resonate with an audience - at your skill level.

The key is being honest about where you are and figuring out what works for your skill level. You do this by studying other winning creators who create at your skill level.

For example artists like Karl Kopinski or Kim Jung Gi get massive engagement because of their masterful sketches, yet Garfield, a simple comic strip, has made more money than both of them combined. What does this tell you?

You do not have to be a world-class artist to find an audience.

Garfield is really simple artistically, but it resonates with people. It has a personality. It connects in a way that people enjoy. Your job is to figure out how you to best leverage your current skill level.

Reference Summary

You do not need to be perfect. You do not need to wait until you are a master. You just need to be strategic about how you share your work.

  1. Engage with others and tap into existing audiences

  2. Learn SEO and algorithm strategy for your platform

  3. Figure out what engaging content is at your skill level

If you can intelligently apply these three things, you will grow - guaranteed.
